Governance for Owners launched its first investment fund and started its services business in late 2005. Our growth since then is proof that responsible shareowners can add long term value to publicly quoted companies by engaging with them on the basis of mutual co-operation and shared common goals. This style of effective stewardship requires substantial resources and a range of skills and experiences not available in conventional fund management companies.
We are recognised as a global leader in relational investment and for generating significant value for clients. Our partners’ collective experience in the art of responsible shareowner engagement on a global basis is unrivalled.
Alignment of interest between GO partners and clients is an important part of the group philosophy. Clients invest in GO and GO partners invest alongside our clients in our funds.

Governance for Owners (GO) is dedicated to adding long-term shareholder value to clients' equity holdings through relational investing and active ownership, including exercising owners' rights.
In support of this, GO's objectives are to:
1. Build a partnership between global financial institutions and experienced professionals from the worlds of business and investment management to address value-oriented business issues at quoted companies internationally;
2. Apply proven principles of relational engagement within a sound governance framework to generate long-term value in underperforming companies;
3. Help investors fulfil their responsibilities as long-term share owners in relation to matters of governance, including social and environmental matters, and performance of investee companies;
4. Develop relationships with all the world’s major institutional investors and work with them on programmes to generate long-term value;
5. Protect and improve the rights of share owners;
6. Be a client-focused and service-oriented organisation;
7. Develop its people as leaders in share owner engagement, corporate governance and relational investing through providing opportunities for professional and personal achievement and formal and on-the-job training;
8. Assemble a team of non-executives and advisors of outstanding ability and reputation to work with the executive team to realise our commitment to the highest standards of self-governance, both in its conduct of share owner engagements and in its own operations;
9. Have an independent ownership structure that can deliver a service free from the conflicts of interest so often prevalent in the financial services industry; and
10. Be recognised as a genuine partnership, which aligns the interests of clients, investors and executives.
