Investment Process
GO invests in companies that have solid core businesses, the value of which is being discounted by the market as a result of structural or strategic governance issues.
Possible companies for inclusion in the portfolio are identified through several sources, principally through GO’s own quantitative screening and through discussions with sell-side analysts. Once identified the prospective investment is analysed on both quantitative and qualitative factors. Should the company fulfil both our investment and engagement criteria, much more detailed strategic research is then undertaken by our experienced investment professionals. Input is also sought from the in-house executives with a broader business background and the experienced business people on GO’s Advisory Board. It is essential that through this research GO can identify the specific factors which are responsible for the discount in the company’s share price and the actions that are likely to remedy the situation. Another key criteria for a company’s inclusion in the portfolio is that it has an institutional framework that allows a minority share owner (such as GO) to act as a catalyst for change.
