Governance expert joins GO USA

Governance for Owners (GO), the share owner advocacy partnership established by
former Hermes directors Peter Butler and Steve Brown and its US subsidiary,
Governance for Owners USA under the leadership of Peter Clapman and William Crist jointly announce that Linda Scott has joined our organization. Linda is a wellknown experienced governance professional who will take operational responsibility for the US side of GO’s Stewardship Service. Linda will also become a partner of Governance for Owners Group LLP, the London-based partnership which controls GO’s global activities.

Linda has over ten years experience in US corporate governance, proxy voting and
engagement having formerly been Director of Corporate Governance at TIAA-CREF
and, prior to that, Director of Investor Affairs at the New York State Common
Retirement Fund. She has been an active member of the Council of Institutional
Investors and is affiliated to a number of other specialist corporate governance
organisations, including the Investor Responsibility Research Center (IRRC). Linda’s governance expertise is enhanced by her background in communications and media relations.

At GO USA, Linda will be responsible for the delivery of GO’s Stewardship Service,
covering voting, structural engagement and policy matters in the US market. Based
in New York, she will contribute to the on-going development of the business with
GO USA’s President and CEO Peter Clapman, Deputy Chairman Bill Crist and
governance advisor Liz Fender.

1. Governance for Owners (GO) is an independent partnership between major financial institutions, shareowners and executives dedicated to adding long-term value for clients by exercising owners’ rights. There are two main product offerings.

The GO European Focus Fund, which invests in European public companies where value can be added through making use of ownership rights. Total funds now available to the GO European Focus Fund currently exceed US$860m (£440m, €650m).

The GO Stewardship Service offers voting and underlying engagement services covering 700 European and 500 US quoted equities combined with a more intensive programme of enhanced-value engagement on a subset of clients’ investments. Plans to extend operations in Asia are being developed.
